On Jan. 15, one year since its debut on the awards show, the Golden Globes musical theme will be digitally released on iTunes in 111 countries.

In addition to toasting the song's first birthday, the release commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Globes. This year's ceremonies will air live on Jan. 13 (NBC, 8 p.m. ET/ 5 PT) from Beverly Hills.

The theme was composed in late 2011 by Asian superstar Yoshiki, a classical multi-instrumentalist and drummer for rock band X-Japan. He plays drums, guitar, bass and piano on the string-laden tune. All proceeds from the sale of the full-length single, a sweeping Hollywood-inspired rock/classical instrumental, will go to charity.

"It's such an honor to be a part of this esteemed event, which is enjoyed by hundreds of millions around the world," Yoshiki said in a statement. "Composing this music was a journey that involved creating numerous versions in order to arrive at just the right sound to capture the unique combination of glamour and edginess that makes the Golden Globe Awards so entertaining. I'm very proud of the result and am thrilled that Warner Music has chosen to make it available around the world."

You can hear one minute of the theme on SoundCloud.

About Yoshiki
Yoshiki, one of Asia's most influential music artists and biggest rock icons, is a songwriter, drummer and classically-trained pianist. His rock group X Japan has sold 30 million singles and albums combined and filled the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome a record 18 times. Now the band's popularity is spreading throughout the world, having recently completed a sold-out World Tour, performing in North America, Europe, Latin America, and South East Asia. In 1999, Yoshiki composed a piano concerto that he performed with a 77-piece orchestra to celebrate the tenth year of the Emperor of Japan's reign. In 2005, Yoshiki composed the theme song and conducted the Super World Orchestra at the opening ceremony of the World Expo. Previously, Yoshiki also recorded a classical album co-produced and arranged by acclaimed Beatles producer Sir George Martin and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Beyond music, Yoshiki has his own Visa Card and MasterCard issued by one of the largest Japanese banks. Recently, the legendary Stan Lee created a Super Hero based on him, and he was the first person for whom a Hello Kitty product line was named ("Yoshikitty"). In 2010, he launched the non-profit organization Yoshiki Foundation America (http://www.yoshikifoundationamerica.org), which continues to donate to various charitable organizations, including supporting Japanese Earthquake victims.

Japanese superstar Yoshiki, who composed the theme for the Golden Globes show, displayed his talents at a theme song listening party he hosted for the HFPA and other guests at Soho House.  A string quartet played compositions by Yohshiki as guests dined at a buffet featuring a menu created by celebrity chef Katsuya Uechi of Katsu-Ya and drank wine from Yoshiki’s own brand, Y. They then watched a 20-minute film featuring news clips and concert footage of Yoshiki and his band XJapan.
Yoshiki recalled how he had met HFPA president Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly at a party, and hearing he had composed the theme for the world’s fair Expo 2005 and a song to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Emperor Akihito’s enthronement, she asked if he would compose a theme for the  Golden Globes.
To commemorate the occasion he unveiled a gift (left) he had designed for all 85 HFPA members—-a framed disc and some musical notes which, when put together, comprise the Golden Globes theme.

The awards show will feature new music for the first time in 15 years. "It has some classical elements and a rock vibe as well,” the Japanese rock star tells THR of his composition. He’s one of the Far East's biggest rock stars, and on Sunday’s Golden Globes (NBC), Yoshiki, frontman for X Japan, will take on a behind-the-scenes role as composer of the show’s new theme song.
“My inspiration was Hollywood,” Yoshiki tells THR. “I tried to combine the old glamour and the flashy Hollywood so the piece has some classical elements and a rock vibe as well.”
Working out of sound studios in Los Angeles and Tokyo, Yoshiki gathered a 35-piece orchestra along with a slew of engineers and technicians for a month of recording. “It was the holiday season, so it took longer and was a little harder to gather all those people,” he says. That may explain why Yoshiki ended up playing so many instruments himself. “I played everything -- drums, bass, guitar, and piano.”
His time commitment to working on the Globes theme also ended up sidetracking X Japan's long-anticipated English-language album. Says Yoshiki: “It’s 90 percent done. Several things happened -- we just finished the world tour in mid-November and then the Golden Globes opportunity came up and I had to do it. It will be released in 2012 for sure.”
Until then, fans can look forward to seeing Yoshiki in the flesh as a Golden Globes attendee. Which movie is he rooting for? “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was very, very interesting,” he says. “I think the music in the movie was excellent. I was there last year at the Golden Globes when [Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross] were nominated for The Social Network. It was great that they won.”

Multitalented rock icon Yoshiki of the melodic metal band X Japan is composing the musical theme for this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
“Yoshiki is a world-renowned musician and composer of enormous talent and versatility, who in addition to being a rock superstar has composed for film and television,” says Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Dr. Takla-O’Reilly. “As an international organization dedicated to creative achievements, the HFPA is delighted to have a global musical artist of Yoshiki’s stature create the theme for the show.”
X Japan have sold 30 million singles and albums combined, not to mention Yoshiki composed the theme song and conducted the Super World Orchestra at the opening ceremony of the World Expo in 2005. He also recorded a classical album that was co-produced and arranged by Beatles producer Sir George Martin and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
In a press release, Yoshiki states, “The Golden Globe Awards are extremely prestigious, but the show is also edgy.” He goes on to say, “I’m a classical pianist and a rock drummer, so it was natural to create something beautiful that also has an edge.”
Yoshiki attended the Golden Globes awards ceremony for the first time last year. This year’s 69th Annual Golden Globes airs Sunday, Jan. 15, at 8PM ET on NBC.
X Japan are also in the studio gearing up to release their first full English album. Their latest single ‘Jade’ is up against Jane’s Addiction’s ‘Underground’ in Loudwire’s current Cage Match.
